This year for Father’s Day, Sydney and I got daddy a pair of tickets to see Radiohead. Since the show is in mid June, we had to give it to him early, so don’t worry no gift spoilers here! Continue reading

If you remember last week’s Favorite Things Post, I shared some great Moroccan style accent pillows from ABC Home. I loved them, and wanted to try my own version using felt. Sydney’s room can’t have enough color, so I made this bright pink, yellow, and cyan version for her sofa. It works perfectly in her room! I chose to use a sewing machine, but a no sew version could be done using fabric glue to carefully adhere the felt cutouts to basic throw pillows. Here is how I made it: Continue reading
Good Morning! I hope you had a great long weekend. We enjoyed relaxing, and enough sun to last us the rest of the week. But now it’s back to reality and getting things done. While I get caught up, I wanted to share some of the sugar scrubs I made for birthday and Mother’s Day gifts this past month. Continue reading
Happy Friday! I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
Speaking of which, I start off today’s post with a yummy recipe I saw on I Am Baker. It is from a couple years ago, but what a great idea for a festive Memorial Day breakfast!
Another craft idea for bow tie pasta…. Father’s Day cards!
This one is done on woodgrain contact paper, and I plan to use it more as a gift tag / gift topper: Continue reading
Today we have been painting pasta! It’s such an easy craft, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it sooner. The craft possibilities are endless. We made some hair clips and bows so far this morning. Next Sydney wants to make a picture, turning the pasta into butterflies! Continue reading
In my family, May is birthday month. There are five birthdays, plus mother’s day. So with all the gift wrapping I’ve been doing lately, I thought a diy gift wrap post would be very appropriate. I wrapped all these presents with items and supplies I already had on hand. Enjoy, and please share any ideas you’ve come up with. I always love seeing clever wrapping and packaging diys! Good Morning! Today I bring you a guest post from Joanna at Design Shuffle. She has some great workspace ideas for you fellow crafters and DIY-ers. Enjoy!
Hello! My name is Joanna. I’m a writer for Design Shuffle, a wonderful social networking community that brings together interior designers and those who love to follow their work. Luckily, as part of my writing I get to spend my days searching for and gathering decorating ideas and images. I love to share them with blog readers like you on design blogs such as The Gold Jelly Bean.
If you’re a crafter, then you know having a place to work and keep your supplies is a necessity. This can be accomplished by turning a spare bedroom or office into your dream workspace or by using a corner of the kitchen or dining room to spread your wings. There is something thrilling about seeing your supplies organized and at the ready for the next big project. These are some of my favorite workspaces wonders. Thanks for letting me share today!
I’m sure most of you have seen the various paint dipped wooden spoons and utensils making their rounds on pinterest recently. I decided to make a set for our kitchen, using a striped design rather than just one solid color. Continue reading
It has been a great week, but I am so relieved it’s the weekend, which means time for family fun! While you get ready for your weekend, here are some things I came across and loved this week:
Get ready to hit Target stores this Sunday, when the new line of art supplies from Todd Oldham launches! I know I’ll be there!
Terrariums have become really popular recently, with classes being offered and lots of stores selling them. I wanted to try a kid version. It was a lot of fun to make, Syd loves it, and we use it to tell stories at night! Heres how we did it:
With a couple new jobs that came up I have been really busy recently, and I’ve found both my desk and Sydney’s desk getting messy and unorganized. As we finished up a couple of boxes of cereal this morning, I had an idea. I’ve been wanting to make desk organizers for awhile, and when better than now?! Continue reading
We still struggle with Sydney and getting her to eat veggies. Chopping up some broccoli and sneaking it into her mac n’ cheese never fails, but I am always trying to come up new ideas. She never turns down muffins or cupcakes, so I decided to try and make some veggie muffin cups for lunch the other day. And it worked, she loved them! I just filled the muffin tins with dough; you can use puff pastry, crescent roll, or really any other kind of dough. I then filled them with a concoction of different veggies and added a couple eggs to hold it all together. Filled the cups, and popped them in the oven at 350 for about 15 mins. I have to admit, I quite liked them as well. They are super easy, and you can use whatever you can find in your fridge and cupboards. Get creative! Continue reading
I hope everyone had a fantastic Mother’s Day weekend. My day was relaxing with Vince and Sydney, and all my wonderful family and friends made me feel extra special. I am one lucky girl!
Now back to reality, and back to all the laundry I didn’t do this weekend… while I get that done, I want to share a recent project with you. Turning an empty quick oats container into a toilet paper roll holder. I love when designers team up with big brands and turn a mundane product into something well designed. Jonathan Adler teamed up with Cottonelle to create designer toilet paper roll covers. Unfortunately the designs do not match our decor, so I decided to make my own! The container perfectly fits two rolls of toilet paper. All you have to do is paint it! Continue reading
So last night was girls night at our house, we watched a girly movie, gossiped, and ate cookies. It was a perfect cozy night in. I made salted caramel chocolate chocolate chip cookies, they were easy to make, and so so yummy to eat! I used this recipe from allrecipes.com, and changed it up a bit. I used dark chocolate chunks instead of semi-sweet chips, and added an entire bag of kraft caramel bits into the dough. Then, I sprinkled each cookie with coarse sea salt before popping them into the oven. Perfection!
Last week I shared this garden organizing jar from Martha Stewart, and it inspired me to make this gardening gift box for Mother’s Day. Continue reading
Over the weekend we decided to disregard the dark, luminous sky that hung above us, and trek out to the suburbs for a nice hike. Long story short, it stormed, we didn’t hike, and instead did some thrifting. I found some great pieces, and have added them to my Etsy Store. You can check them out here.
This past weekend, we had our first Medieval Times experience. And it was fantastic! Sydney wore her Tangled dress, and referred to herself as Rapunzel all night, in third person of course. Our handsome knight galloped on his noble steed, and tossed flowers into the stands. Sydney not only caught a flower, but she also wooed a few fair maidens, and ended up coming home with their flowers as well. She was so proud of her bouquet, and wanted to have them in a pretty vase in her room. So, I came up with a kid friendly flower arrangement. First I wrapped the stems in paper towel, then put them into a bright colored vase. Added just a little water, and found a place for them next to her bed. Now, when she accidentally knocks the vase over, we don’t have to worry about a big wet mess! Continue reading
This weekend Sydney felt inspired, and created several great masterpieces. After all her hard work, finger painting till her hands could paint no more, we couldn’t store her artwork away in a drawer. And a basic frame just wouldn’t do. So we put a couple old typewriters to use, displaying her artwork in a non-traditional manner. Continue reading
Good Morning! Yay it’s Friday!!!! Today I bring you a few great ideas for Mother’s Day gifts that I came across this week.
My mom loves to garden, and so I absolutely love this idea from Martha Stewart. I am thinking about putting together a gardening gift box for her.
