Rorschach Inspired Art

We had an old Ikea desk which was no longer in use, and just taking up space in a closet. We were ready to toss it in the dumpster, and then remembered how badly we needed art above our bed.  This was the perfect free canvas! (And I must  note, even if it wasn’t free, it cost way less than a new canvas anywhere near this size.) All we needed was a small can of semigloss white paint, a small of flat black paint, and an old shopping bag.

How We Did It:
First, lightly sand the desktop. Next spread white paint over the surface––you can be sloppy with this step to help add some texture. Cut a shopping bag to your desired size, and make sure to have a good crease in the center. Next sketch out a general design on one half of center of the bag. Pour on and spread around a good amount of black paint. Fold the bag in half, then open it back up. Now just lay the paint side of the bag face down on the desktop, and there you have it! An original rorschach painting.

  4. This is such a great idea. I have an Ikea piece that I was considering to get rid of. Now I may consider trying this for myself.

  5. I have always been fascinated with this type of painting technique I think its so cool to get something so great by doing something so simple and using your Ikea desk, well that's just brilliant!! Looks beautiful!!
