Beach House Birthday

It’s already been a month since Sydney’s birthday, and I still can’t believe she’s four years old. My oh my, where does the time go?

Being busy back at work, I wasn’t able to be as hands on and crafty as I would have liked, but nonetheless, it was a fantastic party! And, the fact that we threw it at a super adorable beach house set the tone for a great afternoon. Here are a few pics to give you a feel of how adorable it was, including a super cute bathroom that I just can’t get enough of:

love, love this artwork idea:

… and these concrete succulent planters are adorable!

I was most worried about keeping the kiddies occupied, so we set up a pool, had a piñata, opted for a cupcake decorating session vs a traditional cake, filled beach pails with goodies, and finished off the evening with some crab hunting!

We were so thankful to have such great family and friends to help us celebrate!

p.s. no crabs were harmed, we set them free the very next morning…

Updated Mantel… Errrr…. Buffet

Updated Mantel, Buffet, via The Gold Jellybean

Even though it still feels like winter outside, it doesn’t mean it has to feel like it inside! My mantel, or buffet rather, has been feeling lonely ever since taking down our Christmas decor. With a few new elements, some knickknacks from around the house, and a springy decorative oregano plant, the buffet has a new life!

I quickly updated my snowy scene apothecary jars with stacks of polaroid photos. Simple and free transformation. You can use old photographs, or really any collection of items. Matchbooks, shells, vintage toys, etc.

Here’s a closer look at two new pieces I absolutely adore. I love a little quirkiness, and these photographs add just that.

I also added a couple succulents, my animal photo holders, and gold striped candles.

Throwback Thursday : Dinosaur & Animal Photo Holders

Today I’m bringing back an old post from last spring. I originally posted this project on my old site Sunbutter & Jelly, and I wanted to get it back up on my blog to share with you! This is a super easy dollar store DIY. Using some spray paint and an x-acto, I turned these little plastic figures into photo / place card holders. I love the finished product, they add playfulness and humor to our decor!

Pick out the plastic animals of your choice.

Use an utility knife or x-acto to cut a slit in the top of the animal.

Be sure to cut deep enough to hold a card or pic, but don’t cut all the way through.

In a well ventilated and protected area, spray color of your choice.

Let dry, and then they’re ready to use!

You can even use them for place card holders. How cute would these be for a kids birthday party!?

Holiday Doily Garland

I originally made this garland last season, but I like it so much I’m making it again this year!  So I thought I would share it with all of you. I found packages of white, silver, and gold doilies at a thrift shop for a dollar. You can also find them at your local craft store. Just thread the doilies onto some string or twine, and hang! Easy as pie. One little tip to threading the doilies: wrap the end of yarn/string with tape. Now you have a rigid end to weave through the small holes in the paper doilies. This is a versatile garland that can go up now, and stay up ’til Easter!

Things I Loved This Week

I love Nate Berkus! I love Target! Put the two together, and I just may end up one broke mama! I so cannot wait to to hit my local Target store for the debut of Nate Berkus’s Collection on Oct. 21st! (sorry for the excessive use of exclamation points, I’m a little excited)

So, I know Stella & Dot has been around for awhile, but now that I have a fashionista cousin who is a stylist, I have finally gotten around to checking out their jewelry. I can’t believe it took me so long! I am super loving the Renegade Cluster Bracelet. I have been wanting to try the spike trend, and this is the perfect to sport it while still being delicate and sophisticated.

I’m also really excited about some recent finds, which will be available in my etsy shop later this afternoon!

Hawaiian White Sangria

Happy Monday! We have been enjoying our last days of vacation spending as much time as possible with our family and friends out here. In fact, we had a nice bbq last night, feasting on local food and sipping sangria. We came up with our own concoction, and aptly called it Hawaiian White Sangria. It was super yummy, and so I had to share the recipe! Continue reading

Make It Gold

Good morning! This weekend went by way too fast! I spent some time working on new handmade items for my Etsy store. They’re almost done, and I can’t wait to share them with you! While I was working, I had the urge to break out the gold spray paint and give some of my tools a new look. Now my tape measure, seam ripper, scissors, tweezers, and xacto feel more like a pretty set. A few coats of clear enamel will keep them protected from scratching and flaking.

While I was working on my tools, Sydney wanted to transform something of hers as well. So, we gave a few of her hair clips a shiny new look.

Sometimes I wish companies would make household products simple with standard black, white, silver, and gold finishes. Like, why can’t tissue boxes just come in a solid black box? Oh, well… I guess that’s why I go through so much spray paint!

Things I Loved This Week

I am so glad it’s Friday, and I wish everyone a wonderful weekend! Here are a few things I came across and loved this week that I wanted to share with you. Enjoy!

This crafty suitcase TUTORIAL FROM MOUSEHOUSE is not only cute for kids, but I want one too! Previously I made a dog bed out of a vintage suitcase, but now I’m on the hunt for a new one so I can get my sewing supplies organized.

This past weekend my sister brought Syd some TEMP TATTOOS FROM TATTLY, LOVE them. I appreciate anything and everything well designed, and that’s exactly what these are. Plus, they’re fun for both kids and adults!

These gold and white painted mason jars via THE BEAUTY DEPARTMENT are simply beautiful. I could see these used in several rooms around the house. It’s time to get organized!

Design Trends : Seeing Blue

There’s no doubt that when it comes to recent design trends, blue is in. I first fell in love with the color and brought it home when we moved to our current apartment last spring. We coated our 12 foot bedroom walls in the perfect shade of navy blue. The color has actually become one of my all time favorite paint colors, and I can’t wait to use it in another room!

The blue hue is the perfect color scheme if you’re looking to achieve a unique and globally inspired design. Earlier this summer Ikea launched their limited edition True Blue Collection. It’s an Indian-inspired collection, and, in my opinion, it’s to die for. I want to own it all, and have been eagerly awaiting a release of the collection in our local stores. Sadly, I have finally come to the realization that it probably won’t happen. Sigh.

Tuesday Tips : Living Room Makeover On a Budget

It’s been a rough morning over here, we woke up and headed straight to the vet for our poor little Cola. Sydney is really sad her best friend isn’t feeling well, so we stocked up on some craft supplies and will be spending our afternoon at her art desk to keep her mind off things. While we do that I wanted to share with you the living room makeover I did at my mom’s house. I went to visit for a week, and couldn’t resist doing a little renovation project. For just about $900, she has a brand new room! Continue reading

Curb Side to Couch Side : DIY White and Gold Nesting Tables

I’m so glad it’s Wednesday, that means we’re halfway to Friday! But… that also means there is still so much that needs to be done before the weekend is here! Looks like we have a busy day ahead of us. I have a couple design projects that need to be finished up, and Mother’s Day is just around the corner, so Sydney and I better get working! While we do that, I wanted to share a recent table transformation with you.

One night last month my husband took the dogs out for their evening stroll, and came back with these old wood nesting tables. They’re solid wood, in good structural shape, and have nice bamboo style legs. They just needed a facelift. Continue reading

Chevron / Herringbone Painted Wall Tips

I have gotten some questions about our chevron / herringbone patterned wall, and how we achieved the look, so I wanted to share my method with you. Unfortunately, it came before the blog, so I didn’t take step by step photos. But, I will do my best to explain and illustrate the steps. So here we go! Continue reading
