Springy Spring Spring : Yarn Wrapped Candles

Yarn Wrapped Candles for Spring, via www.thegoldjellybean.com

These yarn wrapped candles are the perfect way to add a bright & cheery touch of spring to your table!

And they couldn’t be any easier to make. You just need candles (I picked up mine at Target for under two bucks a piece), colorful yarn, and some glue.

Yarn Wrapped Candles for Spring, via www.thegoldjellybean.com

Start by glueing one end of your yarn to the candle, then get to wrapping. Make sure you wrap tightly, and add a dot of glue every so often. If you’re using hot glue like I did, be sure  to just use a little dot. If the glue builds up it creates bumps under your yarn.

Then they’re ready to display! As always use caution when working with hot glue, and make sure you keep the yarn far enough away from the tops of your candles!

Felt Shamrock Plant For St. Patrick’s Day

DIY Felt Shamrocks, via www.thegoldjellybean.com

Good Morning! I have been so busy working with a few different clients, helping them to refresh and update their homes. But, yesterday I finally found some time to break out my glue gun again! I made this cute little shamrock plant to add a festive touch to our window sill. All I used was green & white felt, wire, scissors, and glue.

Cut out some hearts. Use glue to give them a little dimension. Then, glue the heart shaped clover leaves to your wire. I also made larger clovers by turning my hearts upside-down. Get creative with it.

Then stick them all into  a cute little cup or pot with some foam in the bottom. And done! A super quick afternoon craft!

Christmas Gift Wrapping : Re-using Boxes

I’ve had a busy month thus far, and am finally getting around to gift wrapping. Once I got started, the first thing I did was take a good look around the house for items I could reuse. I ended up with some leftover gift boxes and a few empty brie containers. With a little paint and a few embellishments, I completely transformed Continue reading

Snowy Scenes Apothecary Jars

I recently started decorating our buffet, which acts as my mantel since we don’t have a fireplace, and I am excited to add my snowy scene apothecary jars to it! They have a pretty vintage feel, and are super easy and inexpensive to make. I picked up the trees and street lamps from the dollar store, and the fake snow was a couple bucks at the craft store. The apothecary jars are from Home Goods, and were a great deal.

DIY Bowtie Pasta Garland

I am in full force holiday decorating mode over here, and I’m excited to finally put up some garland I made awhile back when Syd and I were working on bowtie pasta hair bows, artwork, and father’s day cards. It’s a super easy project, and even fun for the kids!

You need bowtie pasta, white glue, paint brush, string, and glitter.

First, brush the pasta with glue, giving it a nice thick coat.

Cover the pasta with glitter. Allow to dry, and repeat on the backside.

After your glittered bows have dried completely, simply tie them onto string or yarn.

Repeat with as many bows as you’d like, making sure to secure each one with a double knot.

We also made a red version. These were done the same way, with just one added step. We first dyed the bows red using food coloring and rubbing alcohol. You can find the tutorial for coloring pasta here.

Have fun and get creative with your colors and string. We enjoyed using a red and white striped string, and even mixed the solid red and red glittered bows.

DIY Snowflake Window Clings (plus tips and the best method)

We have been working on making snow flake window clings for about 4 days now, and finally put them up yesterday. Perfect timing since we had our first snow of the season last night! As soon as we noticed the wintry scene outside, my husband and I ran to Sydney’s room to wake her up. We found her already sitting in her window, watching with excitement. It was so sweet!

Waterless Snow Globes with Photos

At the store yesterday, Sydney couldn’t get enough of all the snow globes and little christmas town accessories. So, today we decided to combine the two elements and create our own waterless snow globes!

For my version of waterless snow globes I added a personal touch with our own photos!

This is also a special way you can give and display your family holiday photo.

Here’s what I used:
old jars, cleaned
spray paint
tape
hot glue
family photos
fake snow
mini trees
mini street lamps
jingle bells

1. Wash and dry all your lids.
2. Gather your festive accents, I chose items that would go along with our photos.
3. Spray your jar lids, I used gold. Be sure to do this in a well ventilated area.
4. Print photos, and feel free to embellish and decorate them!
5. Assemble all the pieces using double sided tape and glue*.
6. For a more finished look, spray the backside of your jar. This will hide any visible tape or glue on the backside of your photo.

*Tip: I glue cotton balls into my lids to give some height and dimension. The fake snow is loose in the jars, and will sit nicely on top of the cotton. Be sure to keep all glue, cotton, and accents away from the edges of the lid to avoid any issues with closing the jars.

Holiday Doily Garland

I originally made this garland last season, but I like it so much I’m making it again this year!  So I thought I would share it with all of you. I found packages of white, silver, and gold doilies at a thrift shop for a dollar. You can also find them at your local craft store. Just thread the doilies onto some string or twine, and hang! Easy as pie. One little tip to threading the doilies: wrap the end of yarn/string with tape. Now you have a rigid end to weave through the small holes in the paper doilies. This is a versatile garland that can go up now, and stay up ’til Easter!

Our Halloween Decor

We don’t have a fireplace, so when it comes to decorating for seasons & holidays I turn to our buffet. It’s a focal point in our home, and makes for a great mantel alternative! This year almost all our halloween decorations are black, white, and gold. And everything is either from the dollar store, around the house, or an easy diy!

Here are all the parts and pieces, and how I made them:

I created the bunting with black construction paper, chalk, and gold string. A few bats are strung on fishing line and hung from the ceiling. They appear to be flying, and my daughter loves this touch! I also used the black netting, which originally held  brussle sprouts, to disguise our Jambox and make it part of the decor. And a few paper pinwheels and a crow from the dollar store make a cute arrangement to give some height to the collection. You can find tutorials on my drippy candles, gold studded pumpkins, and mummy candles by clicking the links below:

Gold Studded Pumpkins
Mummy Candles

I kept the table decor simple, and added just a little festive color.

Gold Studded Pumpkins

These studded pumpkins are the perfect addition to our fall decor! I was inspired to make these little guys while I slaved over my Fiber One Snackcessory clutch.

All you need is a hot glue gun, spray paint, and some pumpkins. First wash and dry the pumpkins. Then use the glue gun to create a design. I went with simple dots of glue to create the studded look, but you can make any design you’d like. Then give it a coat of spray paint, and you can even top them off with clear coat for extra protection.

Please make sure to use caution when using your hot glue, and only spray paint in a well ventilated area.

DIY Halloween Decor : Drippy Black Candles

Over the next week or so Sydney and I will be crafty like crazy, creating our spooky Halloween decor. And I’ll be sure to share each and every project with you! Today’s craft is fun for the kids to admire, but not safe for them to make. You’ll need led candles in various sizes, parchment or wax paper, hot glue gun, black spray paint, and black glitter.

Start out by coating your candles in hot glue. Let the glue drip down the sides of the candles, pooling on the wax paper. Its best to keep turning the candle to let some of the glue drips cool before putting on the next layer. This creates more dimension.

Several glue sticks later, once you have the desired drippy look, carefully peel your candle off the parchment or wax paper.

Now tape or cover the flame portion of the candle, and spray your candle black. Immediately sprinkle your candle with glitter, so that it will stick to the wet paint. Be sure this step is done in a well ventilated area.
