DIY Dollar Store Animal Place Card or Photo Holders

I have another dollar store diy project today. I spotted these cute little animals and dinosaurs in the toy section, near all the creepy crawlers I used in my insect magnet post. I knew I needed to use them for something fun. Using some spray paint and an x-acto, I turned the little plastic figures into photo / place card holders. I love the finished product, they add playfulness and humor to our decor! Continue reading

Spring Crafts: Egg Carton Bunnies and Chicks

Hope everyone is having a great afternoon, and getting excited for Easter. Sydney sure is! Today we worked on some crafts using cotton balls, an egg carton, googly eyes, craft paper, paints and markers. We came up with a cute little chick in a nest, a fluffy white bunny, and a chick that can open and close his mouth (Syd likes to feed that one). What Easter crafts have you been working on?

Fabric Bins, Keeping Sydney Organized

The latest addition to Sydney’s room, fun fabric bins. I found these basic fabric boxes for just $4.99 from Ikea. With some fabric scraps, contrasting thread, fabric glue, and a little creativity I personalized the boxes for our daughters room. It’s a fun way to store toys and stay organized. Sydney knows that baby dolls are in the ‘s’ box, dress up in the ‘y’, etc. I created stencils from paper before cutting the fabric. Then used a sewing machine to outline each letter with contrasting thread. Each letter was then adhered to the boxes with fabric glue.

Eclectic China

I wanted to register for china for our wedding, but we ended up going the Crate and Barrel route instead. And then of course a year, and a couple broken dishes later, the stores stopped carrying our set. You can get them through special order, but what a fuss. So when we moved and needed more dishes, I changed up our set. Between thrift stores and hand-me-downs, we now have a mix of fun china and great basics. Do they match? Well, no… not in the traditional sense. But they do all work together. And the best part? If something breaks, its easily replaceable. Continue reading

DIY Horse Roundup

Our daughters room is still a work in progress, but this weekend we made some headway. We found 7 molded plastic horses at a local flea market and couldn’t pass them up! After getting them home and having a long debate on where they should go, we decided they would be most fun in a child’s room. They have been sitting around for awhile, and this weekend we finally cleaned them up, painted them, and installed them in their new home. Continue reading

Sydney the photographer
