Good Afternoon! Today I finally got around to a project that has been on my list for some time now. Painting a couple of plain old cork coasters. Before they were boring and drab, and now they’re pretty and compliment our table nicely! Here’s how you can make your own:
Start out with plain cork coasters, or cut your own from a sheet of cork.
Use a pencil and stencil or straight edge to draw on your design. Next, use an xacto to score along your pencil lines. This adds some dimension to your coasters. Then spray coaster with a background color of your choice, I used gold of course.
Now use an accent paint color to highlight your design. I went with white.
To finish them off, protect your coasters with a couple coats of clear and let them dry.
As with any diy project, be safe and only paint in a well ventilated area.

What kind of paint is best to withstand smearing with use? Did I miss that part somewhere?
Do you know where i can find the same cork coasters you found?
Hi Natalie,
I actually had the coasters sitting around from awhile back. But I know that Ikea used to sell plain cork coaster, and I am sure you can find some online. I did come across these round ones from Crate&Barrel, they are nice and thick.

Otherwise I would suggest checking your local craft store, just make sure they are not too thin as a thick, sturdy coaster works best.
Thanks for stopping by my blog, have a wonderful day and good luck with your coasters!
