Cream Cheese & Pretzel Chocolate Chip Cookies

I had a major sweet tooth last night, and was craving some yummy chocolate chip cookies. I also wanted pretzels, sweet and salty is my favorite combination. So why not pretzel and chocolate chip cookies?! And what the heck, I had some cream cheese I needed to use up, that sounds like a good addition… right? Right. I googled it, found several recipes for cream cheese chocolate chip cookies, and got to baking. I modified a couple recipes as I went along, and of course added my salty pretzels and ended up with the perfect cure for my sweet tooth! Here is how I made them:

Ingredients:
4oz 6oz cream cheese
3/4 c. unsalted butter, melted
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
2 t. vanilla extract
1/2 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt, plus a pinch
2 c. flour, I used whole wheat
1 package chocolate chips, I used semi-sweet
3 handfuls pretzels, crushed

Mix baking soda, flour, and salt together in one bowl, and set aside.

In a new bowl, add cream cheese and melted butter. I melt the butter to balance out the fact that my cream cheese is not at room temp. (I always fail to plan ahead and get my butter and cream cheese to room temp before I’m ready to bake.) Beat until well blended and it starts to get a little fluffy. Add vanilla and sugars, and beat again.

Now, add the flour mixture a little at a time, mixing well after each addition. Lastly mix in the chocolate chips and hand crushed pretzels. Bake cookies at 350 for about 10 min. Cool. Enjoy!

A little something to know about this recipe: it’s totally kid friendly. Kids can help mix, crush pretzels, and taste test the dough. There are no eggs in this recipe, so feel free to eat and taste as you go along!
