Top 7 things for Kids to do in London

Good morning! Today we are back in the air, bittersweetly headed home. I didn’t have time to get any new airplane toys, but hopefully a few new iPad apps and sorting through shells will keep Sydney busy!

While we fly, check out today’s guest post courtesy of Angelina Lawson and theatretickets.org.uk. If you have any upcoming trips to London with your littles this post is for you!

Hawaiian White Sangria

Happy Monday! We have been enjoying our last days of vacation spending as much time as possible with our family and friends out here. In fact, we had a nice bbq last night, feasting on local food and sipping sangria. We came up with our own concoction, and aptly called it Hawaiian White Sangria. It was super yummy, and so I had to share the recipe! Continue reading

Traveling With Kids

We are having a fabulous time relaxing and visiting with family and friends in Hawaii. But, before we arrived in paradise, we first needed to survive a 9 hr flight. With a 3 year old. I tried to prepare her as much as possible in the weeks leading up to our trip. We had several discussions about airplane etiquette, and the importance of being quiet on the plane. I also let her pick out some new toys, which immediately were packed into her ‘travel entertainment’ bag. I have found that playing with new toys is exciting and keeps Continue reading

A Much Needed Vacation

Good morning… or, afternoon I suppose! We have officially started what is a much needed vacation in Hawaii visiting family and friends. Even though we are away, I still plan to work and keep posting during this trip, but I won’t be on my typical daily post schedule. I have a few posts already planned, and over the next couple weeks I will bring you some tips for traveling with kids, and hopefully some fun, beach themed DIYs!

For today I would like to share with you one of the many reasons why I am so proud of my little sister Kayla. This year she has signed up to run the NYC marathon! She will be running in support of UNICEF. If you have any interest in donating, please visit her site here.

AND, if you donate between now and the middle of September, you will be entered to win one of three items I will be giving away! Donate before September 16th, and be sure to send me an email letting me know you did. I will add you to my giveaway list, and three lucky winners will be announced by Monday September 16th! No donation is too small, every little bit helps!

How to Store & Display Finger Puppets

Sydney loves finger puppets. We started collecting them for her when she was born, and over the last few years her collection has grown quite large. She has all different kinds of animals in beautiful, bright colors. They’re so pretty, it would be a shame to store them away in a box somewhere! So we found a great way to store and display them on shelves in her room. We ordered a set of kid sized mannequin hands online. What better than fingers to store finger puppets!? Continue reading

Things I Loved This Week

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has some fun plans for the weekend! We are off to a wedding, so I better get packing. While I do that, here are a couple things I wanted to share this week:

I picked up this rug from Ikea the other day. Love it! Affordable and well designed. A gray rug with white stripes will  never go out of style. (I realize it says it’s black and white, but looks more like a dark gray in person.)

Cream Cheese & Pretzel Chocolate Chip Cookies

I had a major sweet tooth last night, and was craving some yummy chocolate chip cookies. I also wanted pretzels, sweet and salty is my favorite combination. So why not pretzel and chocolate chip cookies?! And what the heck, I had some cream cheese I needed to use up, that sounds like a good addition… right? Right. Continue reading

3 Days of Music for Little Ears : Tips for Taking Kids to Festivals

We had a great time at Lollapalooza this weekend! Not only did Syd have an awesome time while we were there, but she woke up every morning excited to go back. I have to admit I was a bit nervous the first day… We have taken her to a couple festivals in the past, FYF in Los Angeles and Pitchfork here in Chicago, but Lolla is a whole different animal. It’s much larger, which means loads more people, super drunks, and wild teens. Thankfully we didn’t witness a lot of craziness, and missed the big storm that rolled in on Saturday.

After a fun and successful weekend, I wanted to share my top five tips for taking kids to music festivals:

I must say I am really looking forward to checking out Kidzapalooza and watching Syd have fun with music, dancing, and other activities! New In The Store : Gold Insect Magnets!

I made some insect magnets awhile back, and had been toying with the idea of making sets to add to my Etsy store. Well, as soon as I came across these higher quality bugs with nicer details, I knew it was time to get to work! The magnets are in sets of two, and come in a custom painted tin, ready to gift. They will add fun and humor to your fridge or office. Be sure to head to my store and check them out! I will also beadding some new vintage items this afternoon. Continue reading

Creative Kids : Learning About Insects with Paint

Today we are having fun learning about bugs! Sydney has been very interested in insects lately, so I picked up a bunch of little critters at the store. I thought the toys could help cure her fear of bugs, and teach her how to identify some different kinds insects. Drawing pictures of each insect is a little advanced for her age, so I created a bug painting activity instead!
